LYNDA FINN’S 3-0 TOPS FIELD FOR 1ST IN EXPERTS

1st Lynda Finn came in after a long drive in from St. Paul, Minnesota to finish at 3-0 +229. Lynda won her final game vs. Richard Lauder 347-339 as she held only a single tile at the end, that tile being the second blank… and it was her turn to make a play. That’s the true definition of a REAL power tile!

2nd Charles Reinke averaged a solid 422 over four games as he totaled a 3-1 +122 record to finish atop the expert field. He won his final game 415-405 against Mark Kenas thanks to his two bingo finds of REFUNDS and the 50 point scoring boost he got from TAILWIND.

3rd Mark Kenas finished in 2nd with his own 3-1 +81 tally. Mark opened the night with his highest game so far this year, a 523-468 shootout with Susan Vergeront. Mark played FETATION, SEALING and REGEARED to help his winning cause there.

HARWINDER DOWD'TOPS INTERMEDIATES

1st Harwinder Dowd reaped the benefits of her generosity of providing a warmly received cookie collection as she finished 2-1 +107 in a small field of 4 Intermediates. Harwinder’s high game was her opening 425-204 encounter with June Scott. Harwinder’s YANKEES play fueled her high total.

2nd Sue Goldstein finished in 2nd with a 2-2 -33 record. She gave expert player Andy Bohnsack almost all he could handle, losing by only two points (380-382) as she dropped ESQUIRE onto their board, thereby increased Andy’s normally placid heart rate.

3rd Barbara Lazewski took 3rd at 1-3 -347 as she joined us for her second but hopefully not last visit to our ranks. Barbara has recently retired and is hoping to be able to pursue many of her favorite activities, including playing scrabble with our seasoned players.

20 scrabble players met at Barnes & Noble this week,... Barbara Lazewski was awarded the $4 prize for the highest “GI” play (in GIFTEE), Thomas Reinke had the lowest F play, Andy Bohnsack took high TE, and Know Buddee claimed the finishing low E play.

A newbie player and grad student at the UW, Molly Gardner joined us and proved herself to be ready for the “big league play” at expert level, recording five bingoes in her first three games. Welcome aboard!
Next week, YCLAD (adj, clothed) will provide the $4 club fittings.

ANDY BOHNSACK TOPS COMBINED FIELD WITH 4-0 +441

1st Andy Bohnsack was back from a two week scrabble club hiatus, rested and ready to rumble. He was bingo king this week with 10. He topped Mary Becker in the final game, 545-368 as he plunked down REZONES, OUTBRED, GORIEST and the word of the week, NECKLINE on his way to a 4-0 showing.

2nd Thomas Reinke finished in 2nd with his own 4-0 record, besting Mark Kenas in his closer, 438-362 as he found and played ITERATED and INVOKES in that winning effort.

3rd Charles Reinke took 3rd at 3-1 +255. He played the beautiful find of ASTIGMIA (a visual defect) into an A in his game with Lynda Finn that he won going away, 488-266.

4th Mark Kenas finished in 4th at 3-1 +126. Mark started the night with a win vs. Charles Reinke, 429-377 as he played REGISTER and DEFOAMER in his 52 point win there.

17 scrabble players met at Attic Angels this week and the two groups were combined into one large field as only two brave intermediates were in attendance,... Gail Salm was awarded the $4 prize for the highest “WI” play (in WIMMIN), Shayla Dunn had the lowest M play, Charles Reinke took high MI, and Chris Vergeront won the finishing N play.

MARK KENAS TOPS COMBINED FIELD WITH 4-0 +674

1st Mark Kenas average 467 on the night as he handily swept the field on his way to a 4-0 night with a huge 674 cume points. Mark’s biggest win was a 489-277 game vs. Richard Lauder, a spread of 212 points. Mark also played the word of the week in that game, APYRASE.

2nd Richard Lauder finished in 2nd with a 3-1 +222 final tally. Richard and Susan Vergeront finished their night with a closely contested 456-437 game, Richard emerging atop by a scant 19 points as Susan’s last rack of the 5 tiles CELMV kept her from finding any “out in one” play.

3rd Mary Becker finished 3rd with a 3-1-86. Mary also won a tight game, when she finished with a 377-371 contest vs. Helen Flores in their 2nd game of the night.

4th Helen Flores took 4th as she turned back Lynda Finn 504-303 in their closing match up. Helen averaged a strong 419 this night. She played the nice word CERISES in that final game.

5th Susan Vergeront finished 5th with her own 2-2 +246 record. Susan was able to notch her highest game of the year when she bested June Scott 515-238 in a second game pairing. Her opening word “poofing” stayed as played, although it later proved to be just a good phony, and not a “legal word” used to describe puffy looking dress sleeves. Susan shared bingo queen honors this week with Mark Kenas, both recording 10 each.

A small field of 12 scrabble players met at Covenant this week and so the two groups were combined into one large field, sorry June, ... Shayla Dunn was awarded the $4 prize for the highest “KA” play (in KANAKA), Susan Vergeront had the lowest N play, while the remaining two went unrecorded.
