MICHAEL DAVID SWEEPS EXPERTS -GAINS PENULTIMATE RANK

1st - Michael David took the other experts to the school master's woodshed, as he recorded a 4-0 +259 evening at Attic Angels. Along the way Michael handed Thomas Reinke a rare loss in a 379-321 low scoing affair for both of them. Michael now has a 73.8% winning percentage, just behind Thomas's club leading 75.6% winning average.

2nd- Thomas Reinke continues to scorch the scrabble earth, with another terrific single game, this time a huge 658 six bingo blowout vs. Leslie Seltzer. Thomas plunked down bingoes of HAZIEST, UNVARIED, DELEGATE, PAROLEES, BRASSIE, and ENVIABLE in another incredible scoring binge. Thomas finished at 3-1 +654 for the night.

3rd place - Mary Becker took 3rd place honors, with a solid 3-1 +189 outing. Her big win was a hefty 443-283 game with Richard Lauder, highlighted by her two bingoes of RECLINES and COEDITS.

    SUE GOLDSTEIN SHINES IN INTERMEDIATES @ 3.5-.5 +174

1st - Sue Goldstein narrowly and successful won her first three games but in her 4th game rematch with Betty Hasselkus she and Betty ended up tied at 303 apiece. Still, Sue was tops in her flight with the best record in the Intermediates.

2nd - Harwinder Dowd finsihed at 2-1 +117 to capture 2nd place. Harwinder managed a 38 point win against Sharlie Miura thanks to her two bingoes, HASTIER and the "not a word" word, reveered.

3rd - Betty Hasselkus took Third place with a 2-1.5 night, including a huge opening game of 414-338 with Aki Miura. Betty played STRAINED and ROAMERS in that opening salvo.

Thanks to all who donated their winnings (and other funds) to the WGPO WordCup. The WordCup is the annual WGPO championship tournament and this summer it is being held in Minnesota. My goal is for the Madison Scrabble Club to donate at least $200 to the WordCup so they can have an attractive prize fund. So far, thanks to your generosity we have raised $44. Look for more opportunities to donate at upcoming sessions.

                Thomas Reinke Explodes a 739 Game!

      Thomas Reinke cracked the almost impossible-to-reach 700 level for the 2nd time in Club play when he scored a five bingo (TOECAPS, VELARIUM, RURALIST, MARTIAN and the highest scoring ever word played at our club, CANZONETS as a triple-triple on his way to a shattering 739-403 final game with brother Charles. Charles, by the way, also had a triple-triple, HOARDING, in that same game.  Thomas, way back in June of 2008 achieved an even higher score, a 742 game which still ranks as the highest score ever recorded in all Wisconsin Club games. Andy Bohnsack is the holder of the only other 700 Club game in the state, a 702 total Andy reached in June of 2006.  No player in the United States has ever recorded a third 700 game at club, so Thomas could indeed break that barrier as well.  The question tonight (Friday, March 30th) is...did he buy a lottery ticket for the 600 million dollar "retire for life" event?

    In other much less earth-shaking reporting, Shayla Dunn finished in 2nd in the Experts behind Thomas's 4-0 +565 night, Shayla turning in a 3-1 +325 outing. Shayla's big game was a opening 483-235 blow out with Leslie Seltzer. Shayla bingoed twice there, with ARENITE and CAVEATS. Just returned Richard Lauder finished 3rd at 3-2 +157.

 Mary Becker contributed a 3rd triple-triple this night, with her high scoring INQUESTS for a respectible 194 points against Barb Besadny.

    In the Intermediates, Harwinder Dowd went undefeated with a 3-0 +252 night. Harwinder played four bingoes in her three games, two (RAISING, SHALLOW) in her high game of 372-275 with Sharlie Miura.

2nd Place in Intermediates went to Sue Goldstein at 3-1 +26, and 3rd was awarded to June Scott at 2-1 +19.
