Mice Romp when Cats Are AWA

Lynda Finn Tops Field of Eight in Experts

1st - Lynda Finn rode a sub-par bingo night into a perfect 4-0 finish to capture top spot in the Experts on a night when the club's heavy scorers went AWOL. Lynda's biggest game was a 475-286 single bingo game, with Barb Besadny. Lynda made her bingo count as it was a triple-triple, AROINTED.

2nd- Michael David was bingo king with nine. on his way to a solid 4-1 +342 secondo place finish. Michael turned back Peter Schmiedicke 480-401 as he laid down three bonus plays, SPRUCED, TRADING and the phony aeroles.

3rd - Mary Becker's 3-2 +178 carried her to a 3rd place final spot.  Mary played PALSIES in her 423-339 upset win over Michael David in their 2nd game match up.

KATIE DAVID RULES INTERMEDIATES @ 3-1 +79

1st - Making a all too rare appearance, Katie David rolled to a 3-1 first place finish in the Intermediates, including her 361-341 two bingo finish (INTONES, UNHEATED) with expert Gail Salm.

2nd - Sharlie Muira took 2nd place with a 2-0 +108 outing, besting expert Helen Flores 351-321 with her bingo SLEWING providing the winning cushion,

3rd - Dee Lillge took 3rd with a 1-3 -193 final tally. Dee was the only player who kept Katie David from a perfect night, as she won their opening encounter 404-331 when she found and played FINGERED as a nice bonus play.

REINKE TWIN #1 (THE GOOD LOOKING ONE) EMERGES VICTORIOUS FROM NIGHT OF WORD COMBAT

1st Charles Reinke deployed his tiles with panache en route to 4-and-0 +170 night. His closest win was a seventeen-point squeaker versus visiting verbophile Steve Hartsman, 429 to 412.

2nd Thomas Reinke had only one loss (to his bro Charles) to mar his evening, going 3-1 +123.  Opponents were dismayed at Thomas' anagramming prowess as he laid down ten bingo plays over the course of the night, including the nice 9-letter find INTIMATED.

3rd Visiting Milwaukeean (Milwaukeeite?) Bill Rexhausen showed that those from Brew City can throw down words with the best of them, putting up a record of 3-2 +143.  He scored above 400 in his two losses to the Reinkes, and accumulated a monster 538 points against club director Richard Lauder, assisted by bingos of MARLINGS, FITTING and INTERNES.

JUNE SCOTT MAKES EASY WORK OF INTERMEDIATES

1st June Scott won her two games of the night, whomping both Aki and Sharlie Miura with scores of 408 and 361 respectively.  She played two bingos on the night, SLASHED and STAGGER.

2nd Sharlie Miura had a 1-and-1 performance with a negative eighty spread.  She won her first game of the night 323-314 against Dee Lillge.

Thirteen players came out to Barnes and Noble to shuffle tiles.  We welcomed new player Bryan Benwitz, who tested his mettle at Lynda's recent tournament before journeying to our club.  Peter Schmiedicke played the word of the week, ZONATION, one of his two bingos with a Z this week (the other being UNGLAZED).

Helen Flores Night

HELEN FLORES TOPS LARGE TURNOUT @ 4-0 +284

1st - Helen Flores went undefeated, including a dramatic 4th round win over Bill Rexhausen (410-371) to finish atop all the players on this first meeting in August for the Madison Scrabble Club. Helen started her night with a razor thin 2-point win (306-304) with Sue Goldstein before she put her game into overdrive.

2nd -  Bill Rexhausen put in a very rare appearance at club, but demonstrated with his 10 bingoes over five games that he knows his way around the tile bag's varied effusions. Even the horrid looking rack of EECIINR proved no match, as he conjured the word of the week, EIRENIC (adj., meaning peaceful) from those seven tiles.  Bill aveaged 449 for the night to boot on way to a 4-1 +485 cume.

3rd - Charlle Reinke finished in 3rd at 3-1 +318 despite only playing four bingoes, three of them legit words. His sole lose was to his brother Thomas 407-411 in an opening "king-of-the-hills" match.

Dee Lillge tops Intermediates with a 2-2 +149

1st - Dee Lillge opened with a big 416-277 two bingo (QUEERER, LOADERS) with Sharlie Miura. She ended at 2-2 +149 to claim the tiara for the Intermediates this night.

2nd - Sue Goldstein also played a nice Q bingo, QUOTERS in her game with June Scott as she also had a 2-2 record, with a smaller cume of +97 to finish in 2nd in a smaller group of Intermediates at Attic Angels.

3rd - June Scott's 1-2 -149 allowed her to take 3rd place, her bingo of BEATING doing just that to Aki Muira in their 379-324 first game match.
