BRYAN BENWITZ BREEZES ALONG AT BARNES & NOBLE
1st - Bryan Benwitz successfully battled to a 4-0 +364 night to top a field of 12 experts. His closest encounter was a narrow 23 point win in a 378-355 encounter with Andy Bohnsack.
2nd- Andy Bohnsack's 3-1 +333 took second, his big game his opening 488-371 with Lynda Finn. Andy also played the word-of-the week, when he played BRULYIES, the Y in that word being a blank. A BRULYIE (or BRULZIE) is a loud quarrel.
3rd- Richard Lauder's 3-1 +100 garnered 3rd. Richard was handed his first game win at 411-375 when Peter Schmiedicke mistakenly tried hooking a D to WOE as a go-out play. Woe was Peter.
Mary Becker scored an amazing 106 points with a five letter AZURE play in her game with Helen Flores.
HARWINDER DOWD TOPS INTERMEDIATES WITH 1-1 +39
1st -Hardwinder Dowd returned from a long hiatus, and with her 1-1 +39 finished in 1st place. Welcome back Harwinder!
2nd - June Scott's 1-2 record was enough to edge out Sue Goldstein for 2nd place this evening.
3rd- Sue Goldstein came early and toughed out the full four games, and her final tally of 1-3 -334 giving her the final position of the three Intermediates. Sue's last game was with expert Peter Schmiedicke. Sue survived with her sense of humor intact to be able to soldier on with us on another day.
Bryan Benwitz wins the three way scrabbleoff and is bingo king with 10 bingos.
CHARLES REINKE SETS THE PACE ONCE AGAIN
1st - Charles Reinke's 4-0 +363 topped the experts on yet another too-wintry eve for some of our missing expert players. Mark Kenas has the best excuse..he was last spotted in Arizona. Back on the snow encrusted home front, Charles defeated brother Thomas 566-389, thanks in part to his triple-triple of INDENTOR.
2nd - Thomas Reinke's 3-1 +182 evening culminated with his own 500 game, a 513-437 shoot out with Peter Schmiedicke, Thomas playing PECTINS, ASTERNAL and the more difficult RACEWAYS, on his way across the 3-1 finish line.
3rd- Richard Lauder's 3-2 +200 landed that occasionally erstwhile opponent in 3rd position. He went down to his zillionith loss in a row to Charles, 390-399 went he failed to see the obvious good word CORRALS, and opted instead for the challenged off CARROLS to start their final game match up.
Peter Schmiedicke continued to bleed bingos on his board games, this time 11 such welcomed"wounds"...including SIENITE, UINTAITE, EUPATRID and alas a good sounding phony, gastrial.
JUNE SCOTT TAKES HALF OF THE WINNING SPOTS IN THE INETRMEDIATES
1st - June Scott, by winning a best two out of three match with Sue Goldstein with two wins to one loss, used that cushion to finish atop the INtermediates at 2-2 -113.
2nd - Sue Goldstein took the other half of the awards with her 1-3 -352 total score. Both June and Sue played their four games sans bingoes this week.
